Join CCE for the launch of our Second Chance Hiring Alliance

March 30, 2023 - Over the years, CCE has conducted extensive research and led countless advocacy efforts around the unique challenges faced by people with criminal records and those returning home from incarceration. One thing we have learned is the importance of employment opportunities, especially given that there are increased barriers for returning citizens. To address those barriers, CCE, along with Georgetown University's Pivot Program, is proud to announce the creation of the Second Chance Hiring Alliance (SCHA).

The SCHA will strengthen the connections between D.C. area employers, job readiness and workforce development programs, community-based organizations that provide services to justice-impacted residents, and D.C. government agencies that support justice-impacted residents and employment initiatives. It will also focus on making it easier for employers to hire justice-impacted people by building relationships between employers and job readiness programs, while centering the experiences and perspectives of justice-impacted residents.

We will be publicly launching the SCHA on April 13 at UPWARD: An Employer Symposium on Second Chance Hiring. I hope you will join us at that event to help make it a success and to learn more about the SCHA. The Symposium is for leaders, hiring managers, DEI professionals, and human resources staff from businesses and organizations to explore best practices for hiring formerly incarcerated citizens and creating inclusive workplaces that foster equitable opportunities and economic mobility. If you cannot attend, we ask that you encourage a relevant member of your organization's staff to participate. The Symposium will be both virtual, and in-person at Deloitte's Rosslyn office (1919 N. Lynn Street, Suite 1500, Arlington, VA) from 11 am – 2 pm. You can register for the event HERE.

Finally, please email Gene Downing, our Galena Yorktown Fellow, if you or your employer is interested in learning more about the SCHA, or if you have any questions about the April 13 event.
