Council for Court Excellence Statement in Solidarity with the AAPI Community

The Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community makes up roughly 4.2% of the District’s diverse population. The Council for Court Excellence (CCE), in staying true to our mission, realizes that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, and the deplorable attacks on AAPI individuals are no exception. Violence and discrimination against the APPI community are on the rise, and we at CCE cannot afford to stand by and allow such atrocities to continue without denouncing hate crimes and supporting victims of such violence. Anti-Asian rhetoric increased in 2020, and nearly 3,800 hate incidents against Asian-Americans occurred in the United States last year alone, almost 1,000 more than in 2019. CCE grieves with our community following the gruesome attack in Atlanta on March 16, 2021, that took six AAPI lives: Xioajie Tan, Daoyou Feng, Hyun Jung Grant, Soon Chung Park, Suncha Kim, and Yong Ae Yue.

CCE is committed to fighting injustices within the D.C. community, and this includes dismantling and condemning any institutional structures and/or rhetoric that strengthen white supremacy. CCE stands with the AAPI community and will not sit idly by while acts of violence and discrimination continue. CCE remains dedicated to racial justice and will continue to develop our advocacy efforts with a racial equity lens; ensure diversity within our leadership, membership and staffing; and be vigilant in speaking out against hate in all its forms. CCE also calls for local and federal leaders to take clear and effective actions against hate crimes and empower those who are targeted and harmed. To the AAPI community: we see you, we stand with you, and we will fight with you.
