    August 21st Community Town Hall on Jails & Justice in DC

    The District Task Force on Jails and Justice, which CCE coordinates, is hosting a Town Hall on August 21 to give DC residents a chance to come and share their opinions and experiences with the Task Force members. Tell us what you think about building a new jail, funding services to meet community needs, and making our neighborhoods safer! Your voice is needed.

Ms. Tatro was there to discuss CCE's reentry work, the challenges that men and women returning from incarceration face in the District, and some of the innovative programs that are working to help returning citizens get jobs and build professional skills.

    CCE Publishes New Guide to Help D.C. Residents Navigate Complex Legal Decisions

    When Adults Need Help Making Decisions and Managing Daily Affairs, a guide that explains in non-technical language the resources that are available to people in the D.C. area who, because of illness, physical or intellectual disabilities, aging, injury or dementia, may need extra help when making important life decisions. This guide can help D.C. residents and family members, social workers, lawyers, and anyone who is seeking to support a loved one who may need assistance making legal, financial, educational, or medical decisions.

    Prior to our Holiday Reception on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, CCE will be hosting a timely panel discussion on Threats to the Third Branch: Domestic and International Attacks on the American Judiciary, featuring Judge Jim Robertson, U.S. District Judge (Ret.); Suzanne Spaulding, Center for Strategic and International Studies; and Sarah Turberville, The Constitution Project at the Project on Government Oversight.

    Tamika Tremaglio, Deloitte’s Greater Washington Managing Principal, Named CCE Chair for 2018-2019

    CCE is proud to announce that this summer the Board of Directors elected Tamika L. Tremaglio, Deloitte LLP’s Greater Washington Managing Principal, as its new chair for 2018-2020. Tremaglio replaces the Honorable Sven Erik Holmes, the Vice Chairman, Legal, Risk and Regulatory, and Chief Legal Officer for KPMG LLP, who has served as chair since July 2016. Tremaglio has expressed excitement to return to CCE after being introduced to the organization early in her career.

    On Monday, July 30, Irvin Nathan, in his capacity as President of the Council for Court Excellence, sent a letter to select members of the United States Senate to encourage their action in confirming judicial nominations for the D.C. Superior Court and the D.C. Court of Appeals.

    Misty Thomas named Council for Court Excellence Executive Director

    The Council for Court Excellence's Executive Committee named Misty C. Thomas as CCE's new Executive Director. Ms. Thomas brings her years of experience representing indigent clients in both civil and criminal matters in the District and directing two legal reform non-profit organizations, to further CCE's vital mission to enhance D.C.'s justice system and ensure that all people who rely on our courts and government are served fairly and effectively.

    On February 26, 2018, the Office of the District of Columbia Auditor released a report examining the intersections of the D.C. Department of Behavioral Health and the D.C. criminal justice system. The Council for Court Excellence prepared the report entitled, "Improving Mental Health Services and Outcomes for All: D.C.'s Department of Behavioral Health and the Justice System."
