18th Annual Justice Potter Stewart Award Dinner Honorees

The Council for Court Excellence is delighted to announce this year's recipients of the Justice Potter Stewart Award. Two awards will be presented this year, to Marc Fleischaker and Legal Counsel for the Elderly.  A third award will also be presented to Pepco Holdings, Inc. in honor of their longstanding philanthropic efforts in DC.  The honorees will be recognized at the 18th Annual Justice Potter Stewart Award Dinner on May 8, 2014.

Marc Fleischaker, Chairman Emeritus at Arent Fox, has been selected for his many contributions to our city’s legal community. Besides his successful practice and skilled hand at law firm management, over the years Mr. Fleischaker has provided leadership to a number of nonprofit organizations, including the Council for Court Excellence, and continues to lend his time and expertise to a wide variety of substantive and critically needed legal-related activities.

Legal Counsel for the Elderly has represented the interests of thousands of DC seniors since its establishment in 1975. The organization’s recent reform efforts of the city’s real property tax sale system, exposed in a Washington Post series, led to a significant policy victory that will prevent hundreds of older, low-income DC homeowners from losing their homes.

Finally, Pepco Holdings, Inc. will be presented a special award for its many contributions to the Council for Court Excellence, but even more importantly, its far-reaching philanthropic accomplishments in the DC-Metro area.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, the Dinner Committee, and the Award Selection Committee, we extend warm congratulations to these outstanding leaders who have improved justice here in Washington, DC.

We invite you to join us on Thursday, May 8, at the Organization of American States, for the 18th Annual Justice Potter Stewart Award Dinner.
