Comments on the Initial Filing Fee for Landlord-Tenant Action

In April, CCE, Bread for the City, the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center, Legal Counsel for the Elderly, Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia, Neighborhood Legal Services Program, Washington Council of Lawyers, and Rising for Justice sent comments on the initial filing fee for landlord-tenant action. 

 
April 2021 Testimony on Criminal Record Sealing and Expungement Legislation

On April 8, 2021 CCE Board leader Jon Jeffress and CCE's Deputy Director Emily Tatro testified before the Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety of the Council of the District of Columbia at the public hearing on B24-0063, the “Second Chance Amendment Act of 2021” and B24-0110, the “Criminal Record Expungement Amendment Act of 2021.”

 
March 2021 Testimony at the Performance Oversight Hearing for the Executive Office of the Mayor

CCE's Casey Anderson testified before the Committee on Housing and Executive Administration of the Council of the District of Columbia at the Performance Oversight Hearing for the Executive Office of the Mayor regarding D.C.'s Clemency Board. 

 
March 2021 Testimony at the Performance Oversight Hearing for the District of Columbia Auditor

On March 11, 2021 CCE's Board President Patrick McGlone testified before teh Committee of the Whole of the Council of the District of Columbia at the Performance Oversight Hearing for the District of Columbia Auditor.

On March 11, 2021 CCE's Executive Director Misty Thomas testified before the Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety of the Council of the District of Columbia at the Performance Oversight Hearing for the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety & Justice. 

 
March 2021 Testimony at the Performance Oversight Hearing for the Office of the Attorney General

On March 4, 2021 CCE Board leader and Youth Justice Committee Co-Chair Paul Lee testified before the Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety of the Council of the District of Columbia at the Performance Oversight hearing for the Office of the Attorney General.

On February 11, 2021, CCE's Executive Direcotr Misty Thomas testified before the Committee on the Judiciary and Pubic Safety of the Council of the District of Columbia at the Performance Oversight Hearing for the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council. 

 
Comments to Historic Preservation Board on CORE DC Facility

CCE submitted comments to the DC HIstoric Preservation Board regarding the instant historic landmark designation application filed for the site of CORE DC's new men's halfway house. CCE urged the Board to reject the application so CORE DC can move forward with construction, and the DIstrict can open a new halfway house for men. 

 
Thrive Under 25 COVID-19 Letter to the Mayor and DC Council

In May 2020 CCE joined local advocates to write to the DC Council and Mayor Bowswer with recommendations for further COVID-19 responsive actions in DC's criminal legal system to better meet the needs of people who are incarcerated or returning home to the District from prison and jail. CCE is actively leading work on several of the recommendations in coalition with our partners.
