Juvenile Justice Project

CCE is working to ensure that the District of Columbia’s juvenile justice system is based on evidence-based policies and practices, ensures due process, is transparent as to performance data while protecting confidentiality in individual cases, and is accountable to the community.

The Council also believes accountability must be based on understanding how the system works. So in June 2009 CCE published the first-ever written guide to the District’s juvenile justice system and has distributed more than 12,000 copies of the guide in English and Spanish.

CCE has also published research on the impact of juvenile speedy trial legislation and has testified in DC Council oversight hearings about important policy choices that must be resolved and performance measures that must be improved.  All publications are available in the Digital Library of this website.
