June Kress to step down in 2017

June B. Kress, D.Crim., has announced that she will step down from the Council for Court Excellence (CCE) after leading the organization as executive director for more than 12 years. Dr. Kress will continue with CCE through mid-2017 to ensure a smooth and successful transition for her successor.

"June has been highly instrumental in continuing CCE’s legacy of strengthening the justice system in the District of Columbia," said CCE president Irvin B. Nathan, senior counsel at Arnold & Porter LLP. "Thanks to her leadership and planning, CCE is well positioned for continued success, but we will miss her greatly."

CCE’s Executive Committee has formed a Search Committee, chaired by James H. Hulme, a partner at Arent Fox LLP. "June will be hard to replace, but given CCE’s stellar reputation, we expect that many outstanding candidates will apply," said Mr. Hulme. The Search Committee is composed of Messrs. Nathan and Hulme and five other board directors: James D. Berry Jr., Michael Frohm, Victor E. Long, Julia A. Matthews, and Natalie S. Walker.

"Now is the right time for a transition, for both me and CCE," said Dr. Kress. "CCE has completed its strategic plan for the next five years. The new executive director will have a clear road map to get started."

As for her future, Dr. Kress, 67, plans to explore her options. "I'm not the type of person to sit idle, but I’m looking forward to a little down time to ponder what the next chapter will look like."
