CCE Job Opportunity: Policy Analyst

The Council for Court Excellence seeks a full-time Policy Analyst. This professional will oversee two key areas of our programs: Children in the Courts, Access to Justice, and Public Service. These areas include work related to: child welfare, foster care, custody, juvenile justice, access to justice, CCE’s original publications, and our various community educations programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:  The Primary duty of this position is to monitor and improve the performance of the justice system as it affects Washington, DC residents. This position will specifically oversee CCE’s mission areas of Children in the Courts, Public Service, and Access to Justice. To accomplish this goal, the Analyst will:

  • Coordinate several project committees to address specific program areas. These committees will be composed of a wide variety of stakeholders, including: agency employees, nonprofit professionals, attorneys, judges, etc.
  • Identify community needs based on research, data, and stakeholder communications.
  • Design and implement methodologies to study public policies.
  • Recruit volunteers to work on project committees, engage committee leadership, and provide functional support for project committees.
  • Prepare all written content related to project responsibilities, such as draft publications, project reports, annual reports, newsletters, website, etc.
  • Draft and occasionally present public testimony related to project areas.

Qualifications:

  • Education: JD strongly preferred (active Bar membership not necessary). Academic background in government, public policy, social work, or statistics are all plusses.
  • Outstanding skill in developing and executing social research and defining and measuring outcomes. Ability to create, interpret and present statistics and data.
  • Impeccable writing and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships with board leaders, stakeholders, and policymakers. Ability to communicate with partners of diverse backgrounds and points of view. Strong sense of diplomacy.
  • Detail-oriented with problem-solving, organizational and time-management skills. Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, organize work, and follow through independently.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in an office environment, preferably in a policy or nonprofit organization.
  • Fluent computer skills: Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Database experience (eTapestry preferred) would be a plus.

Accountability: Reports to the Executive Director.

Hours and Salary: This is a full-time position based on a 37.5-hour work week. Salary will be commensurate with experience, up to $60K.

Start date: January 7, 2013
