CCE Board Directors Recently Honored

Three CCE Board Directors were recently recognized for their leadership within the Washington, DC legal community.  On September 17th, the Children’s Law Center (CLC) hosted its Helping Children Soar annual benefit and recognized Steptoe & Johnson, LLP as a Pro Bono Champion for DC’s Children.  CLC underscored Steptoe’s firm-wide commitment to pro bono and recognized the firm’s individual champions including CCE Board Director Barbara Kagan, who is Steptoe’s Public Service Counsel. James Rocap, chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee, accepted this honor on the firm’s behalf and mentioned that in the last decade, the firm has provided more than 18,000 pro bono hours and more than 100 Steptoe attorneys have represented these pro bono cases involving the District’s most vulnerable children in foster care, adoption, guardianship and custody related matters.

The Women’s Bar Association of the District of Columbia honored four bar leaders at its 2013 Stars of the Bar Reception on September 19th.  CCE Board Directors including the Honorable Diane Brenneman, from DC Superior Court, and Paulette Chapman, of Koonz, McKenney, Johnson, DePaolis & Lightfoot, LLP, were among the four honored. The other two bar leaders recognized were Lorelie Masters, of Jenner & Block, LLP and Holly Loiseau, of Weil, Gotshal & Manges, LLP.  These women leaders were honored as serving as role models in the legal profession and for championing civility through mentoring, volunteering, and giving back to help further the advancement of women in the profession.  In accepting this honor, both Judge Brenneman and Paulette Chapman in their remarks emphasized being part of a community of advocates focused on improving and achieving justice for all.

CCE congratulates all honorees!
