CCE Awarded $56,000!

CCE received the exciting news last Wednesday that CCE’s Jury Project, Changing Perceptions: Jury Service in the 21st Century, has been awarded a $56,000 grant from the City Fund, administered through the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region.  Last November, over 300 applications were submitted to the City Fund with requests totaling more than $30 million.  CCE joins 57 other organizations for the first round of grantmaking from the City Fund.

“The Community Foundation is so pleased to award these City Fund grants to organizations that are doing the essential work of improving our community,” said Terri Lee Freeman, President of The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region. “There is great need in our region, as evidenced by the outpouring of grant applications. We are honored to house this fund and help push resources out to the community where they can most effectively be used for good. The City Fund is providing a much-needed infusion of resources for our local nonprofits.”

Over the next 12-18 months, the Council for Court Excellence will conduct a new jury service initiative, Changing Perceptions: Jury Service in the 21st Century, which will systematically and comprehensively address current issues and the stigma of jury service in the District of Columbia from the perspective of jurors, judges and lawyers. It will build upon CCE's DC Jury Project’s 1998 report, Juries for the Year 2000 and Beyond. Jury service in the District faces a series of new challenges that did not exist at the time of the 1998 report.
