Announcing the 2015 Justice Potter Stewart Award Honorees

CCE is pleased to announce Roger M. Adelman and the Free Minds Book Club & Writing Workshop as the 2015 Justice Potter Stewart Award Honorees.

Roger Adelman has been selected for his many contributions to the administration of justice in the District. During his legal career, Roger has served in a variety of prosecutorial roles, as a stellar civil attorney, criminal defender, and as a law professor.  From his long and storied career as a lawyer in DC to his role as a mentor, teacher, and scholar to the DC Community, Roger Adelman meets each criterion for the Justice Potter Stewart Award, and we are thrilled to honor him in 2015.

The second award will go to the organization Free Minds Book Club & Writing Workshop, a non-profit organization that uses books and creative writing to empower young inmates to change their lives. The organization, founded by two former journalists Tara Libert and Kelli Taylor, started as a volunteer project because of their concern about the lack of services for incarcerated youth. This led them to begin Free Minds as a bi-weekly book club, with the goal of introducing incarcerated youth to the life-changing power of books and creative writing. The program has grown to serve incarcerated youth through all phases of incarceration and reentry.

Please mark your calendars for the 2015 Justice Potter Stewart Award Dinner on Thursday May 7, 2015 at the Organization of American States. We hope to see you there!
