Civil Justice
Since the 1995 passage of the Probate Reform Act, sponsored by CCE to simplify the process for probating an estate, over 25,000 DC families have found it easier and less expensive to settle the estates of deceased relatives.
In the District of Columbia, civil cases represent about 60% of all cases filed in court, or 70,000 to 80,000 cases per year. Over the past 25 years, the Council's work has addressed the clarity of rules for civil cases and the pace with which these cases are handled by the courts in the District of Columbia. This has resulted in processes that are faster and fairer for all parties - individuals and businesses - in a civil dispute. |
